Essay Structures and TOEFL Essay Writing Techniques and Essentials

College Essay writing is an art, and like any art or science, it has its own procedure and background information that must be understood before the beginning of the task. Haphazard writing and poor reasoning can destroy your written material and render your research useless and hard work. In an English Language Test, you could lose a lot of your marks and get a very bad grade in writing if you ignore the proper structure. All the good phrases, interesting comparisons and catchy phrases won’t help you if you don’t know where to put them. Sometimes, a well-structured writing material with less information is seen as much better than a poorly structured material with good information, because of you don’t know when to say what, and you will discourage the reader from reading. The poor essay structure is similar to talking out of place or without reason. Imagine your personal impact on people if they were talking about African politics and you suddenly chirped in something very informational about Antarctic geology. Writing out of place is very much like reckless talking it discourages people from communicating with you.

While giving a TOEFL, you must learn the proper essay writing structure or the whole point of giving the test would be wasted. An essay usually consists of three parts and all of them deserve proper attention in writing and detail. The first part being the introduction requires that you introduce the topic very clearly to the reader. You may also include your final statement in your first paragraph, as it will give the reader a clear impression of your personal opinion about the topic.

The second part of an essay is its body, which can be from two to three paragraphs long. Each of these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence and then present supporting ideas and details later. That is where you put the bulk of your information. The last part of an essay is the conclusion in which you summarize your findings or views and state a concluding sentence. All of the sentences you use in your essay must be clear and precise. Try not to stray from the original topic and confuse the reader. The proper essay structure and its importance are often underestimated by many students while giving English language tests, and it results in very poor grades. Structuring your essay in this way will clearly present all the required information to the reader and will result in proper marks for your work.
